AHV social security for employees
AHV (Alters- und Hinterlassenenversicherung) is Switzerland's state pension system. Contributions are mandatory for all employees and split between employer and employee.
Step by step
- 1
Understand the system
AHV/IV/EO contributions total 10.6% of your gross salary, split 50/50 with your employer. Your share is 5.3%, deducted automatically.
- 2
Get your AHV number
Your AHV number (756.XXXX.XXXX.XX) is assigned automatically when you register at the Gemeinde. It's printed on your health insurance card.
- 3
Verify on your payslip
Check that AHV, IV, EO, and ALV deductions appear on your monthly Lohnausweis. If missing, contact HR immediately.
- 4
Understand your pension rights
You earn pension credits for every year you contribute. Full pension requires 44 years (men) or 43 years (women) of contributions.
